The first thing we ever do when we travel to new places is to satisfy one of our pleasures in life: Eating! Most people love eating and consider it something very special. Even if we are in our own countries, today it is very common to find exotic restaurants, or restaurants from different parts of the world offering new flavors and dishes.

Frequently Asked Questions
1. Can I make these Latin-American recipes vegetarian?
Yes. Many traditional recipes can be easily adapted to vegetarian versions. For tacos, substitute chicken with beans, grilled vegetables, tofu, or plant-based protein. For coconut chicken, use coconut milk with mushrooms or meat alternatives. Ceviche can be prepared with hearts of palm, mushrooms, or even watermelon for a refreshing vegetarian option.
2. How spicy are these dishes?
The level of spiciness depends on the type and quantity of peppers used. Latin-American cuisine ranges from mild to very spicy. You can adjust the heat by using fewer chiles, removing the seeds, or choosing milder varieties. The suggested recipes are moderately spicy, but you can customize them to your preference.
3. Can I prepare these recipes in advance?
Yes. Tacos and coconut chicken can be partially prepared ahead of time. You can cook the filling and prepare toppings in advance, assembling the tacos just before serving. Ceviche is best made a few hours before serving to allow the fish to marinate in citrus juices, but it should not be prepared too far in advance to avoid excessive acidity.
4. What side dishes pair well with these recipes?
Tacos pair well with rice, beans, or a fresh salad. Coconut chicken complements steamed rice, plantains, or roasted vegetables. Peruvian-style ceviche is traditionally served with corn, sweet potatoes, or crispy plantain chips. These sides enhance the flavors without overpowering the main dish.
5. Are these recipes authentic to their countries of origin?
These recipes reflect traditional flavors from Central America, the Caribbean, and South America, while being simplified for home cooking. Authentic versions may include regional ingredients or techniques that vary by country. You can adapt the recipes using local produce or spices while preserving their core flavors.
